Independent Chairman
Graeme has a background in stock broking, capital markets and investment. Graeme founded and became Executive Chairman of Southern Capital Limited which listed on the NZX and evolved into Hirequip New Zealand Limited. The business was sold to private equity interests in 2006. Previous directorships include New Zealand Farming Systems Uruguay Limited, Sealord Group Limited, Tasman Agriculture Limited, Magnum Corporation Limited, At Work Insurance, Tourism Holdings Limited and alternate director of Air New Zealand Limited. Graeme is currently director of Precinct Properties New Zealand Limited and shareholder and director of Southern Capital Partners (NZ) Limited as well as a member of the Trust Board of Samuel Marsden Collegiate School.
Murray Brown
Independent Director, Chair of Audit, Risk & Regulation Committee
Murray Brown became an independent director of the Harbour Board in February 2020, and Chair of Harbour’s Audit, Risk and Regulation Committee on 1 April 2020. Murray has over 30 years of experience in investment markets, both as a research analyst and a portfolio manager. He was a Senior Portfolio Manager at Fisher Funds until 2016 looking after Kingfish, property & infrastructure, and local equities. Previous to Fisher Funds, Murray was Research Director at First NZ Capital.

Murray is a Board member of the Government Superannuation Fund Authority and Yachting New Zealand. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce & Administration from Victoria University of Wellington. He is also a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors (CMInstD).

Stephanie Gartrell

Steph is the Company Secretary for Harbour Asset Management, and also for its parent company FirstCape Group Limited and its subsidiaries. Steph has worked in governance for 15 years, including four years as Company Secretary for Trustees Executors. She holds a Bachelor of Music, and an MBA, and will become a Chartered Governance Professional and Chartered Company Secretary in December 2024.

Craig Stent, CFA

Craig is Head of Equities, a founder of Harbour, and the portfolio manager for the Harbour Australasian Equity Income Fund, the Harbour Long Short Fund, the Harbour NZ Index Shares Fund and the Harbour Sustainable NZ Shares Fund. Craig also has overall responsibility for managing the Equity Team. Furthermore, he provides equity research and ratings on the utility sector. Prior to joining Harbour Asset Management, Craig was employed by AllianceBernstein New Zealand for seven years, originally as a Client Relations Associate before moving to Research Analyst in July 2004. Furthermore, Craig has previously worked for the Bank of New Zealand, Chase Global Investor Services (London) and the Bank of Ireland in roles responsible for monitoring and controlling daily cash activity and the management of support staff for Foreign Exchange Trading Desks. Craig has a BCA from Victoria University of Wellington and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) charterholder.
Chris Di Leva, CFA
Director, Head of Multi Asset & Global Investments
Chris is the Head of Multi Asset and Global Investments at Harbour. In this role he is responsible for managing multi-asset portfolios for large institutional investors and the Harbour Active Growth Fund, utilising Harbour’s own strategies as well as external strategies from around the world. Chris built and launched NZ’s first diversified multi-sector Impact Fund, targeting investments that provide financial return as well as helping meet UN Sustainable Development Goals. Chris joined Harbour from Mercer, where he was most recently a Portfolio Manager, responsible for growth assets within Mercer’s fund suite in New Zealand. Chris has a strong track record in investment manager research, dynamic asset allocation, and structuring investment portfolios for some of New Zealand’s largest institutional investors. Chris has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Victoria University, Wellington, and has obtained the CFA® designation.
Mark Brown
Director, Head of Fixed Income
Mark joined Harbour in 2011 and has over 30 years of experience working in fixed income markets in New Zealand and offshore. He leads the fixed income team at Harbour and is the portfolio manager of the Harbour NZ Core Fixed Interest Fund and the Harbour Income Fund. As a portfolio manager, Mark is primarily involved in investment strategy and risk management, being ultimately responsible for the investment performance of the firm’s longer-maturity bond funds. Mark has experience across the disciplines of credit analysis, economics and quantitative analysis. As active managers, Mark and his team have a proven track record, most notably adding value during the GFC and COVID affected years when volatility was high. Mark has a BCA from Victoria University of Wellington and a MBA in finance from the University of Rochester, NY.

Senior Manager, Responsible Investing
Sue specialises in responsible investing and ESG analysis, including the alignment of BNZ investment portfolios to net zero and overseeing the wider Harbour ESG programme. Sue joined BNZ in 2019 and has a background in financial markets, sustainable finance and ESG investing. She worked with the Aotearoa Circle on the Sustainable Finance Roadmap and the development of New Zealand’s Stewardship Code.
Louis Nel, CFA
Head of External Managers & Partnerships
Louis is responsible for managing the workflow and prioritisation of Harbour’s manager research activities. This includes ensuring that Harbour has access to the best tools for manager research, and that manager research processes remain robust. It also involves the ongoing monitoring of external managers so that they continue to deliver to expectations and remain fit for purpose. Louis has 25 years of experience in the industry, both offshore and in New Zealand, working for private banks and asset management firms. He holds a BCom degree in Business Management and Economics from the University of South Africa, a BCom (Hons) degree in Investment Management from the Rand Afrikaans University, and he is a CFA® charterholder.
Kevin Bennett
Director, Head of Equities Research
Kevin is the Head of Research, a founder of Harbour and provides equity research and ratings on the telco, industrials, healthcare, media, transport and technology sectors. Prior to joining Harbour Asset Management, Kevin was employed by AllianceBernstein New Zealand as a Research Analyst in Australasian Equities. In this role Kevin was responsible for equities research with an emphasis on telco's, media, transport, forestry, healthcare and cyclical stocks. Kevin was previously a Director and Head of Telecommunications Research (Australasia) at Deutsche Bank. Kevin has over 34 years of investment management experience with such companies as AMP Society, Doyle Paterson Brown, Fay Richwhite and Bankers Trust New Zealand. Kevin has a BMS (Hons) from the University of Waikato.
Shane Solly, CFA
Director, Portfolio Manager
Shane is portfolio manager for the Harbour Equity Focus Fund and the Harbour Real Estate Fund and supports the management of Harbour’s other equity mandates. He is responsible for equity research and ratings on the aged care and retirement, airline and leisure, infrastructure and real estate sectors across the New Zealand and Australian equity markets. Shane has more than 30 years of managing portfolios for investors at ANZ, Citibank, Goldman Sachs, ING and Mint, and has previously managed funds that have won numerous industry awards. Shane is a CFA® charterholder and holds a Bachelor of Business in Finance from Massey University, where he graduated as a Dean’s list scholar. He is a member of the board of the CFA Society in New Zealand.

Øyvinn is a founder of Harbour and is responsible for equity research and ratings on the agriculture, resources, food & beverages, retail, and oil & gas sectors. Øyvinn also helps in portfolio and risk management of the Harbour Long Short Fund, and Sustainable Impact Fund. Furthermore, he provides macroeconomic input to the wider Harbour team on the Chinese economy, which he covers through regular research trips to China. He also supports the Harbour team in portfolio risk management. Prior to joining Harbour Asset Management, Øyvinn was employed by AllianceBernstein New Zealand for 2 years as Assistant Research Analyst. Øyvinn holds his Master of Commerce from the University of Canterbury with first-class Honours in Finance and is a Financial Adviser.
Jorge Waayman
Manager, ESG Research
Jorge manages Harbour's environmental, social, governance (ESG) programme including research and implementation. This involves coordinating the approach to exclusions, stewardship, and the integration of ESG factors into the investment process. Jorge began at Harbour as an intern in 2016. He completed his first-class BCom (Hons) degree in Finance at Victoria University of Wellington prior to joining Harbour.
Jordan Mueller
Investment Analyst
Jordan joined the Harbour team as Operations Analyst in April 2022 where he provided investment operations and administrative support to the Equities and Fixed Income Teams, before transitioning to an Investment Analyst role in our Equities Team. Jordan is responsible for the implementation of equity trades. Before joining Harbour, Jordan worked with the client services team at Booster providing support to their KiwiSaver, Super and Investment advisers and clients. Jordan has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree (Hons) majoring in Finance and Economics from Victoria University of Wellington.

Nick joined our team full time in March 2022 as an analyst. He is responsible for research coverage on diversified financials, insurance, platforms and some technology. Previously Nick had completed an internship with Harbour, providing support to Harbour’s whole investment team while finishing up his university studies. Nick has obtained an MCom from the University of Auckland.

Simon Pannett, CFA
Director, Senior Credit Analyst
Simon is a Senior Credit Analyst in the fixed income team, where his chief responsibility is credit analysis of issuers within the fixed interest and income funds. Simon previously chaired our Asset Allocation Committee and managed relationships with iwi. Prior to joining Harbour, Simon was a research analyst at Investment Solutions UK in London where he managed a multi-manager global equity portfolio. He started his investment career at AXA Global Investors in Wellington, where his primary role was to select and monitor investment managers across all asset classes. Simon holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in Economics from the University of Otago, where he was awarded the William Emery Scholarship. He is a CFA® charterholder.
Jenny Yang
Senior Quantitative Analyst
Jenny joined in 2020 as a Fixed Interest Analyst within Harbour’s Fixed Income team. She is charged with developing a broad range of quantitative analytical tools that will deepen the research and risk management capabilities that apply within fixed interest portfolios and the Harbour Income Fund. She also works on incorporating big data analytics to help identify sources of information not readily available from traditional data sources. Prior to joining Harbour, Jenny was a bank regulator at the Chinese Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission, and a lecturer in investments at Lincoln University. Jenny has a PhD in Finance from Lincoln University, her research topic was bank efficiency and bank regulation in Asia Pacific region.
George Henderson, CFA
Director, Portfolio Manager
George is portfolio manager of Harbour’s Enhanced Cash and NZ Corporate Bonds Funds, and short duration mandates. Prior to joining Harbour in 2018, George spent 11 years in London at Royal London Asset Management (RLAM), progressing from trainee to Global Bond Fund Manager where he successfully led the firm’s offering in developed bond markets. Responsible for a variety of institutional and retail products, he also launched the RLAM International Bond Fund and RLAM Global Inflation Linked Fund. George began his career in Sydney with Ibbotson Consultants (now Morningstar) supporting senior consultants in advising institutional pension funds. George holds a Master of Business Studies (Finance) from the University of Otago and the CFA® designation.
Hamish Pepper
Director, Fixed Income & Currency Strategist
Hamish joined Harbour in July 2019. He has specific responsibilities for macro-economic research, fixed interest and currency strategy. His research is reflected in investment decision making across the Harbour investment team, in particular relating to fixed income and currency. Before joining Harbour, Hamish worked as an FX and EM Macro Strategist for Barclays Investment Bank for 8 years in Singapore and London. He was most recently Head of FX & Emerging Markets Macro Strategy Research for Asia, based out of their Singapore office. Hamish was previously a Senior Analyst in the Financial Markets Research team at the Reserve Bank of NZ, responsible for presenting financial market analysis to RBNZ policymakers. He holds a first-class BCA (Hons) in Economics from Victoria University, Wellington.
Simon is a Senior Credit Analyst in the fixed income team, where his chief responsibility is credit analysis of issuers within the fixed interest and income funds. Simon previously chaired our Asset Allocation Committee and managed relationships with iwi. Prior to joining Harbour, Simon was a research analyst at Investment Solutions UK in London where he managed a multi-manager global equity portfolio. He started his investment career at AXA Global Investors in Wellington, where his primary role was to select and monitor investment managers across all asset classes. Simon holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in Economics from the University of Otago, where he was awarded the William Emery Scholarship. He is a CFA® charterholder.
Jenny joined in 2020 as a Fixed Interest Analyst within Harbour’s Fixed Income team. She is charged with developing a broad range of quantitative analytical tools that will deepen the research and risk management capabilities that apply within fixed interest portfolios and the Harbour Income Fund. She also works on incorporating big data analytics to help identify sources of information not readily available from traditional data sources. Ryan joined Harbour from BNZ Investment Services as part of the creation of FirstCape. Ryan is responsible for the international equities and international fixed interest asset classes for BNZISL, as well as quantitative aspects of Responsible Investment. He has over 15 years of experience in the New Zealand funds management industry, having previously led the portfolio management and investment operations team of New Zealand’s largest Exchange Traded Funds provider. He holds a BCom degree majoring in Financial Accounting from the University of Canterbury, and he is a member of CA ANZ.

Lewis is an Associate Portfolio Manager who joined the firm in 2021. Lewis assists with portfolio management for large institutional multi-asset client portfolios as well as the Harbour Active Growth and Sustainable Impact Funds. In addition to this Lewis' work includes asset allocation research, portfolio modelling, and external manager research. Lewis emigrated to New Zealand from the UK in 2021, where he gained 8 years' investment experience through research roles at Aon Hewitt, Deutsche Bank and most recently BlackRock Investment Management where he was responsible for external manager research across the Alternatives spectrum for BlackRock's Multi-Asset Solutions business. He holds the CFA® designation, and has a BSc Masters MORSE (Mathematics, Operational Research, Statistics and Economics) from the University of Warwick.
Tony Hildyard
Senior Portfolio Specialist
Tony Hildyard is Senior Portfolio Specialist at Harbour and oversees the Hunter Global Fixed Interest Fund. He has responsibility for providing investment advisory services to the Fund, as well as promoting the Hunter Investment Funds scheme and managing client relationships. Tony is one of New Zealand’s most experienced investment professionals, reflecting the work he has done in the past with PIMCO, and as CEO of Tower Asset Management. Tony Hildyard joined Harbour Asset Management in October 2021. Immediately prior to joining Harbour, Tony was Managing Director of Hunter Investment Management Limited and has had broad fund management experience. During his 20 years with Tower Asset Management Limited, the last 3 years as CEO of Tower’s investment businesses, Tony developed specialist investment skills having had portfolio management roles in both domestic and global fixed interest, currency management and New Zealand commercial property as well as more general asset allocation total portfolio oversight. Tony then spent 7 years working for the US based Global Bond Firm, PIMCO where he was their sole representative in New Zealand.

Anne-Marie Carian
Director, Client Relations Manager
Anne-Marie heads up Harbour’s Client Relations Team and has a proven track record of building strong client relationships and enhancing client satisfaction by providing first class support and services throughout a client’s journey with Harbour. Anne-Marie has led various initiatives within Harbour across the breadth of many divisions, including 8 years as Harbour’s Product Manager, which involved helping to set up our compliance and governance structure under the FMCA regime. Prior to taking time off to raise a family, Anne-Marie was employed at AllianceBernstein as a Client Relations Associate, where she provided client reporting and servicing for the institutional client base. Anne-Marie began her career with the Bank of New Zealand before travelling to the UK where she worked for JP Morgan Chase in Custody. She holds a Bachelor of Science and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration from Massey University.

Tina joined Harbour as Client Services Associate in 2020. She provides general service and support to our clients, from opening new accounts to ensuring they receive all the reporting and information they need. Tina has a long history in the banking and financial services industry both nationally and internationally, coming to Harbour with over 25 years’ experience in various client-facing and client service focused roles. Most recently she worked in Adviser Support at JBWere (NZ) Limited for 5 years in the Wellington office. She holds a Bachelor of Māori Performing Arts with Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi.

Notably, during her time at ASB Group, Ainsley designed and launched the ASB default KiwiSaver scheme, and had no fund suspensions or capital loss during the 2008 financial crisis. Ainsley holds a BCom in Economics from the University of Auckland. She is a trustee of the Melanesian Mission Trust Board and leads the CFA Society New Zealand Diversity, Equity & Inclusion working group. Ainsley previously served on the Boards of the Financial Markets Authority, the Government Superannuation Fund Authority and Hōhepa Auckland Regional Board.

Prior to joining Harbour, Sophie worked on communications projects and events at Young Enterprise Trust. Giorgia joined Harbour as a Communications and Events Coordinator in 2024. She provides ongoing support as a member of the Client Engagement team, including both internal and external communications and events coordination. Prior to joining Harbour, Giorgia had experience as an Intern at the Council for International Development, specifically in Code of Conduct Support and Event Management. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Development Studies and a Bachelor of Communication in Intercultural Communication at Victoria University of Wellington and was recognised as a dean’s list scholar.
